Spotify is expanding Reserved, its presale ticket program for superfans, with setlist playlists and personalized share cards. The features began rolling out on Thursday, September 24, alongside a new in-app hub that consolidates show information in one place.
Setlist Playlists and Share Cards
The setlist playlists draw from setlist.fm data and appear on a ticket holder's event page. Before the show, the playlist reflects what the artist has been performing on recent tour dates. After the concert, it updates with the actual songs played that night. Playlists will roll out as participating tours launch.
Share cards arrive in two waves: when a fan is selected for a Reserved offer and again after purchase. Each card displays the fan's name, artist, show details, and Reserved branding, designed for posting on social platforms or sharing via messaging apps.
The new in-app destination brings together share cards, setlists, event details, venue information, and past performances.
How Reserved Works
Spotify announced Reserved at its Investor Day on May 21. The program identifies an artist's most dedicated fans and holds two tour tickets for them before the general on-sale. It launched in the US on June 18 through a partnership with Live Nation, with tickets sold via Ticketmaster. The program expanded to Canada on August 17, starting with Jonas Brothers dates.
Reserved is available to Spotify Premium subscribers in the US and Canada who are 18 or older. Premium Mini, Premium Lite, and free trial accounts are excluded, and accounts must be at least a week old. Spotify selects fans based on streams, saves, shares, and location.
Selected fans see the offer on their Spotify Home screen and receive an email, push notification, and alert in Your Updates. The purchase window typically lasts around a day, with two tickets held for the entire period. Fans choose the date, venue, and seats at checkout on Ticketmaster, subject to availability. Unclaimed tickets pass to the next eligible fans. A fan who declines an offer cannot request another one, though tickets may appear in the public sale.
Program Reach
In its Q2 update in August, Spotify said nearly 100,000 tickets had been reserved through the program. Recent offers have included John Summit, Young Thug, Miley Cyrus, Metallica, Role Model, and beabadoobee.
Spotify says its live music efforts have driven more than $1.5 billion in ticket sales for artists. The company also notes that the top 2% of an artist's monthly listeners, a group it calls "super listeners," account for 50% of that artist's ticket sales. The new features are rolling out to participating tours as dates begin.
