TL;DR

Swedish House Mafia used KVANT's Architect W1500B during their headlining performance at Portola Music Festival in San Francisco. The 500-pound projector, designed for architectural and sky illumination rather than conventional stage use, produces a two-foot-wide beam visible from miles away and is billed as the world's most powerful full-color RGB laser system.

Swedish House Mafia brought a 1,500-watt laser projector to their headlining performance at Portola Music Festival in San Francisco, marking one of the most extreme production deployments seen at a contemporary festival stage.

KVANT's architectural-grade projector

The trio used the Architect W1500B from manufacturer KVANT during their closing set at the festival's Pier Stage. The company describes the technology as the world's most powerful full-color RGB laser system. Unlike conventional show projectors built to rapidly draw patterns and animations, this static-beam system was developed primarily for architectural, landmark, and sky illumination.

The projector weighs nearly 500 pounds. Its output emerges as a beam measuring roughly two feet across, and KVANT says it can remain visible from many miles away. The International Laser Display Association awarded the W1500B second place in its 2025 Fenning Award for Technical Achievement, which recognizes technological advances in the field of laser displays.

Return to Pier 80

The performance marked Swedish House Mafia's return to Pier 80 after their pair of warehouse shows at the venue late last year. The group closed the festival's Pier Stage with the hardware anchoring their production design.
