The Prodigy has partnered with British audio company Flare Audio to release a line of wired earphones, the result of more than two years of development. The £179 product is the first release from BLK.ANT, the pioneering electronic group's new creative platform for projects beyond music.
Studio-Grade Sound for Mobile Production
The earphones were developed through collaboration between Flare co-founder and inventor Davies Roberts and the band's principal producer, Liam Howlett, who worked through hundreds of prototypes and extensive studio listening sessions. Howlett, who has shaped The Prodigy's aggressive electronic sound since the group's formation in 1990, wanted earphones capable of accurately reproducing his productions while working away from his studio.
"I need to hear things the same way I hear them in the studio, especially if I'm sitting in a hotel room for two days working on music," he explained. "I've gotta be able to trust that the sound I'm hearing is right and gonna hit."
Beryllium Drivers and Hand-Built Production
The earphones feature 10mm beryllium-coated drivers and patent-pending internal waveguide technology designed to minimize unwanted resonances. Their matte-black bodies feature The Prodigy's iconic ant logo in gold, with Howlett and bandmate Maxim contributing to the physical design. Every pair will be handcrafted at Flare's headquarters in West Sussex, England, with production taking approximately eight hours per pair.
The collaborators ruled out Bluetooth early in development, favoring a wired connection to avoid wireless audio compression and preserve the dynamics of the music. The partnership builds on an existing relationship between Howlett and Flare—Roberts previously told EDM.com that The Prodigy's music had been used to test the company's speakers and that Howlett was using its Studio Master earphones in his productions.
New Creative Platform for The Prodigy
The launch introduces BLK.ANT as an outlet for The Prodigy's ventures into design, fashion, art and other creative projects, representing a new chapter for the influential group whose fusion of punk and rave music helped bring underground electronic music to mainstream audiences during the 1990s.
The earphones are available to preorder now through BLK.ANT and Flare Audio. The first limited batch is scheduled for delivery in December 2026.
