Culture Over Cash
According to Rachata Thanyawut, executive director of VR1.World Thailand and the event's local organizer, Tomorrowland's founders chose Thailand for reasons that went beyond financial support. While competing countries allegedly offered subsidies four to five times larger, Thailand won with its unique atmosphere, hospitality, and cultural identity.
"The founders have had Thailand in their sights for ten years," Rachata explained during an interview on Deep Talk. "They fell in love with the vibe, the mix of natural beauty, urban convenience, and a culture that feels alive 24 hours a day." The country's street food culture, tourism infrastructure, and warm hospitality aligned with the immersive spirit organizers wanted to create.
Engineering a 1,000-Tonne Stage on a Lake
The search for a venue took more than three months before organizers settled on Wisdom Valley in Chonburi. Unlike traditional flat festival grounds, Tomorrowland's founders wanted a location with elevation and layered landscapes to create a more immersive visual experience. Wisdom Valley's rolling hills and massive lake provided the perfect canvas.
Organizers are investing approximately $11.3 million USD (400 million THB) into infrastructure upgrades. One of the largest engineering projects involves reclaiming part of the lake to support the enormous main stage, a structure weighing roughly 1,000 tonnes that will be shipped directly from Belgium in 126 shipping containers. The venue is already around 70 percent ready for the first edition.
A Thai Identity for Tomorrowland
Rather than replicating the Belgian festival, organizers are building a distinctly Thai experience. One of the most unique additions will be a dedicated Muay Thai Stage, blending traditional Thai boxing performances with electronic music and DJ sets. Half of the festival's 200 food vendors will showcase authentic Thai cuisine from all four regions of the country, and Thai performers will reportedly share the main stage alongside international headliners.
Fans from 196 countries are expected to attend, with approximately 40 percent traveling from Asia and another 30 percent from Europe, the Americas, and Australia. More than 500 European production experts are expected to train local teams in world-class festival operations, helping elevate Thailand's live entertainment capabilities. Plans are already in place to potentially expand the festival into a two-weekend format by its third year.
