Tomorrowland Weekend 2 Cleared for Limited Fireworks

Controlled Pyrotechnics Return Under Strict Conditions

Tomorrowland will bring back limited fireworks for Weekend 2 in Boom, one week after pyrotechnics were completely banned due to dry conditions and a high risk of wildfires across Antwerp province. The festival confirmed that controlled fireworks are planned for selected moments at the Mainstage, although each use will depend on daily safety evaluations carried out with local authorities, Tomorrowland's on-site meteorologist and experts from the Event Control Center (ECC).

Under the new approval, fireworks will only be used at selected moments around the Mainstage, with each day beginning with a fresh safety assessment. Those evaluations will consider weather conditions, fire risk and the situation across the festival grounds before any pyrotechnic effects are permitted, meaning approval for one day does not automatically carry over to the next.

Additional Safety Measures in Place

Additional fire watches and security will be positioned around the Mainstage, with organizers stressing that any pyrotechnic effects can still be reduced, changed or cancelled if weather or site conditions worsen. The plans remain flexible throughout the weekend, with pyrotechnics able to be adjusted at any point if conditions deteriorate.

For Tomorrowland, fireworks have long been closely tied to the festival's visual identity, particularly around major moments at the Mainstage, where pyrotechnics are often synchronized with performances and key transitions throughout the day. Their return for Weekend 2 brings back an element that was noticeably absent during the first weekend, although this time the festival is operating under much tighter restrictions and with no guarantee that every planned effect will go ahead.

Weekend 1 Operated Under Total Ban

The decision follows a very different situation during Tomorrowland Weekend 1, when all fireworks were prohibited after authorities raised concerns over prolonged dry conditions and an increased risk of wildfires. Boom mayor Jeroen Baert, Rumst mayor Jurgen Callaerts, Antwerp provincial governor Cathy Berx and the fire department jointly imposed the total ban while Antwerp province was under Code Orange, a warning level associated with a high risk of nature and forest fires.

That restriction meant the first weekend went ahead without one of the production elements most closely associated with Tomorrowland's Mainstage shows. Fireworks have traditionally been used across the festival to accompany major set moments and nighttime sequences, making their absence particularly noticeable within a production known for combining large-scale stage design, lighting, lasers and pyrotechnics.

With conditions now allowing for a more limited approach, Weekend 2 will see some of those effects return under closer supervision. The final decision will continue to be made day by day, meaning attendees could see fireworks at selected points across the weekend, while any change in weather or conditions on site could still lead to individual effects or entire sequences being removed.
