United Airlines announced Tuesday that it will launch the first-ever scheduled nonstop flight between North America and Ibiza, with four weekly flights from Newark starting May 31, 2027. The current journey from New York to Ibiza requires connections through Madrid, Barcelona, or Lisbon, typically consuming half a day in each direction. The new route will operate on United's Airbus A321XLR aircraft, cutting the multi-leg journey to a single flight. The route is still subject to government approval, but United says seats will go on sale via its website and app.

The Ibiza route headlines what United is calling the largest international expansion in its history, with ten new destinations for 2027. The lineup includes Valencia, Marseille, Toulouse, Sardinia, Sicily, and Okinawa. Ibiza's tourism office has reportedly lobbied for direct US service for years, even as American attendance on the island has climbed steadily despite the connection hassle.

United started flying Newark to Palma de Mallorca in 2022, and that route has grown on sustained demand.
