UMG Expands Hotel Business to London
Universal Music Group announced it will open UMusic Hotel London on Denmark Street, inside the Outernet district in the West End. The 55-room property is slated to open in late 2026, according to the announcement.
The hotel will occupy the space previously held by Chateau Denmark, which closed on August 4 after four years on the street. UMG plans to combine nightlife, hospitality, and immersive entertainment under one roof, with Outernet—the media and events company behind the wraparound screens at Tottenham Court Road and the Here at Outernet venue—handling event programming. It's UMG's second music hotel, following the Madrid location that opened in 2022, and its first in the UK.
Denmark Street's Music Legacy
Denmark Street has been Britain's "Tin Pan Alley" for the better part of a century, housing Regent Sound Studios where the Rolling Stones and David Bowie recorded. The Sex Pistols lived in an attic space on the street in the '70s, and Johnny Rotten's graffiti has been preserved in the building. The street has been the spiritual home of London's guitar shops and songwriters for decades.
UMusic Hotels president Jordi Solé said Denmark Street holds a special place in music history, adding that the company is "incredibly proud to be part of its next chapter." Outernet CEO Philip O'Ferrall called music "a driving force for Outernet" and said that's what makes the partnership special.
Physical Spaces and Nightlife Programming
The development is part of a broader pattern of music companies and venues investing in experience-first spaces in central London. fabric recently locked in four years of events at St Paul's Cathedral, and Outernet has become one of the West End's busiest live spaces. A hotel with built-in nightlife programming, steps from Tottenham Court Road station, is aimed at the crowd that plans trips around club nights and gigs.
Based on the Madrid property, expect music-themed rooms and heavy programming rather than a quiet boutique stay. UMusic Hotel London is set to open in late 2026.
