TL;DR

Westend and Modapit have released "Technophobic," a French touch and Daft Punk-inspired track on Trace Amounts, paired with an interactive browser game. The game casts players as either artist navigating a sabotaged warehouse party to rescue their partner and restore power to the stage.

“I felt like that needed to be more upfront”

Interactive Release Pairs Track With Browser Game

Westend and Modapit have released "Technophobic" alongside an interactive browser game that transforms the single into a playable experience. Players choose either artist and navigate a sabotaged warehouse party after a villain called the "Technophobe" cuts the power and locks their back-to-back partner in a flight case. Armed with USB drives as projectiles, the objective is to reach the mainstage and restore the drop.

French Touch Meets Maximalist Production

The track draws from mid-2000s electro house and French touch influences, with production inspired by Daft Punk. "Technophobic" leans into synth-driven, maximalist sensibility as a counterpoint to minimalist approaches in contemporary club music.

Westend, a member of the EDM.com Class of 2023, told Las Vegas Weekly that Modapit originally submitted the demo to his Trace Amounts label. He wanted to sign it but also saw an opportunity to reshape the track around the synth line. Westend explained that he felt the synth element needed to be more upfront.

Available Now via Trace Amounts

"Technophobic" is out now on Westend's Trace Amounts label and available on streaming platforms.
