What So Not has announced a new project and tour titled "I Saw a Trap DJ and It Changed My Bio Chemistry," marking a deliberate return to the cinematic trap sound he helped popularize in the early 2010s. The Australian producer wiped his social media platforms entirely, replacing years of content with a single narrative announcement on Instagram.
A Deliberate Reconnection
In a statement, What So Not framed the project as a reflection on an era he had spent much of the last decade moving away from. He said he had been "running away from a sound I helped create" while chasing the next thing, and that the new material comes from finally reconnecting with that energy. He added that he feels he's "finally writing the music everybody wants from me, but on my own terms."
The SoundCloud-Era Legacy
What So Not's footprint in that era is substantial. The Branchez remix of his 2013 breakout "High You Are" became a defining festival cut of the SoundCloud-era trap movement, and singles like "Jaguar" and "Gemini" helped wire cinematic trap into the dance music circuit.
Pivot From Recent Experimental Work
The announcement follows The Quiet That Hurts, his five-track December 2025 EP with Dutch producer Buunshin, which leaned into experimental drum and bass. The new project marks a decisive pivot back toward his origins.
Further details on the project and tour are expected in the coming weeks.
