The White House has unveiled plans for what it calls the largest fireworks display in history, a 40-minute spectacle designed to mark America's 250th birthday on July 4. The production will launch more than 850,000 fireworks from over 20 locations surrounding the National Mall, including barges positioned along the Potomac River. If successful, the display will eclipse the current Guinness World Record set by the Philippines in 2016.
Seven times the scale of EDC Las Vegas
For context, EDC Las Vegas fires roughly 120,000 fireworks across three nights. The White House production will deploy seven times that volume in a single evening. Fireworks will launch simultaneously from more than 20 coordinated firing locations, creating a synchronized display across Washington, D.C. The show, dubbed "Salute to America," will run nearly double the length of a traditional Independence Day finale.
Part of the broader Freedom 250 festivities
The record-breaking finale anchors Freedom 250, a multi-day celebration commemorating the nation's semiquincentennial. Attendees can expect military flyovers, live performances, and large-scale public events throughout the capital. Last year's Independence Day display in Washington launched 7,000 fireworks.
The "Salute to America" fireworks display is scheduled for July 4, 2026.
