ZHU is bringing the warehouse-party ethos of his latest album to Washington, D.C. for a new festival series. BLACKLIZT.DC takes place December 18–19 at Berhta, where more than 10 acts will perform across three stages.
A Festival Built From an Album's DNA
The event grew directly out of the ideas behind BLACK MIDAS, ZHU's recent record designed to center the music itself and recall the underground warehouse parties that defined early electronic music culture. In an interview with EDM.com after the album dropped, the producer explained his shift away from spectacle.
"My music came from a bedroom producer perspective, as opposed to a DJ… energy-centric perspective, and it took me time to develop that," ZHU said. "Now all I really need to show up with is decks and my voice. No production, no lights. Just the main ingredients."
Curated Lineup and Traveling Format
The inaugural lineup includes HNTR, Dansyn, Fahlberg, TOBEHONEST, and Joezi, among others. According to a press release, ZHU selected each artist based on personal history—whether from sharing a bill, collaborating in the studio, or both. Attendees have been asked to dress in black.
Washington, D.C. is only the first stop. ZHU plans to organize BLACKLIZT once a year in a different city or country, making the December weekend a blueprint for future editions. Tickets go on sale Thursday, November 5 at 10 a.m. ET.
